Foreign Player of the Year 2005 and U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year 2006

Oguchi started his professional career in France in the summer of 2002 signing with FC Metz of Ligue 2. In 2003, he was loaned out to La Louvière in Belgium, and to Standard Liège a year later. The move to Liège was made permanent for the 2004–05 season. After the season, he was named to the Belgian league's Best XI as well as Foreign Player of the Year for 2005. On December 26, 2006, Oguchi was voted U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year. He was the first defender to earn the award since Alexi Lalas in 1995. Having been the subject of many transfer rumors regarding clubs throughout Europe, Oguchi finally completed a loan deal with Newcastle United on January 30, 2007, covering the remainder of the 2006–07 season. Following Newcastle Oguchi returned to Liege where he helped win the Belgian title in back to back seasons. Which was the first time in the club's history in 25 years.

Oguchi is the first American to sign for A.C. Milan

After the season he was named to the Belgian league Best XI for the second time. His strong form continued during the 2008–09 season. He led the Standard defense to a second consecutive Belgian league title. Standard was drawn with Anderlecht at season's end, and Standard won a two-legged playoff for the championship.
Although Oguchi enjoyed his journey in Belgium, it was time to engage in a new challenge. The opportunity knocked at his door when Mr. Galliani from A.C. Milan saw him anchored the back for the U.S. run to the Confederations Cup final in 2009. In the summer of 2009 he became the first American to sign for world football powerhouse AC Milan of the Italian Serie A.

Oguchi is still on top with Twente

He signed a three-year contract with Milan on July 7, 2009, making his Milan debut on July 22, while on September 30 he made his competitive debut in a Champions League match. His presence in the area intimidated the opponent. Unfortunately due to a knee injury  that he suffered while on National Team duty, Oguchi missed the 2009–10 season, appearing in only one Champions League match. At the end of the season, on May 17, 2010, it was announced that Oguchi’s contract with  AC Milan was extended for one more season, keeping him under contract with the club through the end of the 2012–13 season. However on January, 2011 he joined Dutch Eredivisie Champions Twente on loan for the rest of the season, where Twente continued their success by having a great run in the KNVB Cup, reaching the final facing Ajax, who finally won.

Oguchi is Captain America

In June 2011, he’s joined Sporting Club de Portugal signing a three-year deal. With the game against Vila do Conde, Oguchi scored his first goal. A goal that was a milestone for him as that game marked a turning point for him, gaining the name of Captain America.
Most of the times he has played a decisive and crucial  role for his Club throughout the season, being the man of the match, always ready to make the difference. In the Cup of Portugal, in Europe and in Portugal Guch and his Team have shown their talent with a sequence of nine victories, a series without parallel in recent seasons.
